Hurt Model is an instru-metal trio based in Los Angeles, California. In 2008, they released their debut album, “This is You,” described by music journalist Etan Rosenblom as a collection of "rumbling barbed wire tumbleweeds with the cycling dissonance of Trout Mask Replica-era Captain Beefheart & His Magic Band and the knotty jams (and snarky song titles) of early Don Caballero ; Dysrhythmia's tricky counterpoint, and the throttled guitar sound that Steve Albini brought to so many classic records in the early 90s.”
Their roots stretch across the country to Washington, DC where guitarist and principle songwriter Trevor Vento, and then=bassist and vocalist Bennett Erickson met in high school. They wrote a few songs together and recorded a demo with Andrew Heideman on drums. Vento and Erickson left for college in the fall of 2001. During breaks from school, they continued to record music together, though Heideman no longer attended sessions. Erickson took over on drums and the band did away with the vocals altogether. In 2005 Hurt Model relocated to Los Angeles and played several shows as a guitar and drum duo, before James Barry joined the band on bass.
