There appears to be more than one band that go by the name 'High Cotton'. I. Laura Monk & High Cotton craft original songs with uncommon words and mesmerizing melodies. Described as Americana – Folk Rock with a twist, this band is powered by the expressive, passionate voice of Laura Monk and complimented by driving acoustic guitar, lyrical bass lines and an eclectic mix of percussion. Each have played in various types of bands over the years…ranging from Pop, Jazz, Celtic, Rock, Southern Rock and Country. Instrumentation Laura Monk: Lead Vocals, Guitar, Mandolin, lap dulcimer / John Monk: Bass, mandolin, Harmony / PJ Engeman: Percussion, Guitar, Banjo, Harmony / Dan Foster: Lead Guitar Websites http://www.highcottonatl.com, http://www.sonicbids.com/highcotton, www.myspace.com/highcottonatl II. 'High Cotton' Another obscure treat from the 70's. High Cotton released, as far as I can tell, one album. Produced by Allen Toussaint, this is a really nice, groovy album (oh, groovy!). Setting it apart from the majority of southern rock releases, is the use of horns and its outspoken funkiness. Which is something I always love in southern rock. Singer/trumpetist Todd Logan has played as session hornman with people like Gregg Allman, The Marshall Tucker Band and Hydra - amongst others. Dig it!
