Hesenjan Tursun was born into a respected music family in the northern Uyghur town of Ghulja in the green and fertile Ili Valley in Xinjiang. He is a rising star in the world of Uyghur music, now beginning to take on the mantle of his older brother Nurmemet Tursun (Nur Mahammat Tursun), the leading instrumentalist of his generation, who died in 2002.
