Heatmiser was an American rock band formed in Portland, Oregon, in October 1991. The band consisted of Elliott Smith (guitar and vocals), Neil Gust (guitar and vocals), Brandt Peterson (bass), who was later replaced by Sam Coomes of Quasi, and Tony Lash (drums).
They were known for their lyrics and songwriting, often characterized by a contrast between melancholic and more upbeat words and melodies. Elliott Smith’s more pop-oriented compositions differed stylistically from Neil Gust’s generally darker material, although both songwriters addressed themes including anger, alienation, loneliness, and despair.
