Fiona Soe Paing is a Scottish/Burmese electronica producer, vocalist and sound artist based in Aberdeenshire, Scotland.
Her debut track, sung in Burmese, was released on the "Sound Of The World 2007" compilation on Warner Music by BBC DJ Charlie Gillett, who had discovered her home-produced demo on Myspace. Developing her sound while living in New Zealand, Paing collaborated with animation artist Zennor Alexander to create a surreal and immersive audio-visual performance. The show in Auckland Fringe Festival 2009 caught the attention of a producer at New Zealand’s national TV station, TV One, who produced a documentary feature on Paing’s work.
After returning to Scotland, the show was developed further, with support from Creative Scotland, and was performed as “Alien Lullabies” at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2015 as part of the “Made In Scotland” showcase of Scottish performance. Her self-released “Alien Lullabies” album, combining vocals in Burmese and English with abstract vocal improvisations, was an exploration of narratives of heritage, belonging and identity.
Her album "Sand, Silt, Flint" was released in 2022. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
