ESSENZEN – these are over 30 “collective individualists”. Many of them are experienced in performing in bands and reaped the benefits of musical education. Inspired by American College a cappella, ESSENZEN sing and perform modern pop and rock music – solely by using their voices. Since their foundation in 2004, ESSENZEN have been “on tour” in Lower Saxony and Bremen, Germany. ESSENZEN was founded by the "Chorjugend im Chorverband Niedersachsen-Bremen e.V." which is a registered association working with and for youth choirs in the Northern part of Germany. ESSENZEN was created as a selective choir, firstly to represent the Chorjugend on a national level and beyond that, to foster a musical interchange with other choirs. Being on its own since 2009 the choir has been able to devote itself to achieve the best musical activity as possible. The singers, aged between 14 and 27 years, come from all over the federal states of Bremen and Lower Saxony - from Norderney to Göttingen and from Osnabrück to Lüneburg. They meet in different places for joint rehearsal weekends. People who would like to join ESSENZEN should bring dedication, enthusiasm and choir experience with them, as the songs have to be prepared in active work at home. At the rehearsal weekends, the singers work on individual voice training, the sound of the entire choir and on stage presence with their musical conductor Ingo Beck. Diversified workshops, led by different guest instructors, round up the intensive rehearsal work. ESSENZEN focuses on pop sound and distinctive rhythms which evolve from an engaged mouth percussion section. The singers’ aim is to touch their audience by interpreting well-known pop ballads in a very soulful way. They want to inspire with rhythmic soul and rock classics that are full of energy.
