Electricity Comes From Other Planets formed on the East London/Essex border in mid-2003, and in 4 years together released just 2 EPs (My Intimate Problem in 2004 and Halitosis Nightmare in 2006) in addition to 2 tracks on the Bring Your Own Poison live album. Influenced by Buzzcocks, the Clash, the Wildhearts, Carter USM, the Soft Boys, Wire, Magazine & Green Day, they played numerous gigs with the likes of the Libertines, Art Brut and Selfish Cunt, helped in no small way by singer Vis the Spoon's role as co-founder & compere of East London's infamous Bring Your Own Poison nights (now trading as Bored Youth on Prozac). Dogged by a succession of flaky guitarists and recording hiccups (after 2 successive guitarists left within a year, the band set about recording an album as a trio, only to have the studio shut down around them halfway thru... leaving 6 tracks incomplete to this day when the owner disappeared with the tapes), ECFOP struggled to maintain a steady profile and lurched in and out of activity, rarely mustering a gig outside of London. When they did, they were always rapturously received, suggesting they maybe should have done more of it. In mid-2006, having expanded from a quartet to a six piece line-up (with a new drummer, the old drummer on screaming/monkey-dancing duties, and a third guitarist !)public reaction become even more enthusiastic, and the future looked positive. But once again a looming tour of the north of England (in March 07) highlighted the lack of commitment of various members and founders Squibs & Spoon decided to call it a day. Regrouping to honour some outstanding dates, ECFOP are due to play two final shows : The Ambient Picnic in Epsom on Sunday 8th July, and 333 in Shoreditch ('Dollhouse Days are Over' night) on Friday 3rd August 2007. Read more on Last.fm.
