Drew Citron has been at the singer/songwriter racket since birth - singing before she could read, playing piano before checkers, inventing melodies before cognizant thoughts. It is this fact, and her extremely artistic upbringing (in San Francisco, surprise surprise) that have allowed her to become the folk pop anomaly she is today. The daughter of a painter and a writer, she was encouraged to pursue creativity not as a whim or anecdote, but as an indispensable, core element to leading a worthwhile life. Drew has a strong approach that blends soulful writing, innovative instrumentation, and sultry vocals of extraordinary power and, at the same time, vulnerability. Drawing inspiration from such titans as Joni Mitchell, Loretta Lynn, and Julie London, her work can cut to the core while appearing sweet and fleeting. A true child of the acoustic camp, Drew believes in the revelation of simplicity, poetry, and honest story-telling. She has graced the stages of Joe's Pub, Rockwood Music Hall, National Underground, Lit Lounge, Bar Matchless, Public Assembly, Glasslands, Cameo Gallery, Pete's Candy Store, and The San Francisco Chamber Orchestra Society (in a 1995 talent competition). On the heels of a Southern tour last summer with her band Bone Sweet Bone, Drew won the prestigious songwriting competition (and the gas money to get home) at Eddie's Attic in Atlanta, GA. Read more on Last.fm.
