The Direct Hits were formed in Battersea /Tooting Wandsworth, and released their first single MODESTY BLAISE on Whaamm Records. After releasing another single and an album BLOW UP in the Autumn of 1984 they were heavily ensconsed in the mod revival, then morphed slightly toward pyschedelia with the release of their second album.THE HOUSE OF SECRETS on their own label, FORBIDDEN RECORDS. Then another single appeared SHE REALLY DIDNT CARE followed by rave reviews in the indie press. after three tours of Germany, the band finally split, after making their last appearance at the Mod Aid concert at Walthamstow town hall.
The band continue to earn respect from other similar artists, and several bands have admitted to being influenced by THE DIRECT HITS. They hold the dubvious record of having the longest running
continuous fanzine by any mod band THE DIRECT HITS MONTHLY ran for almost three and a half years, and copies now fetch up to £100.00 plus!
All The Direct Hits recordings, and associated DIRECT TAPES recordings, which remain largely unreleased at present, are now owned by BLAAMM RECORDS, a nod and a wink to their original mentor and record label boss, DAN TREACY who will need no introduction as the creator and driving force behind Whaamm Records in the early 1980’s.
We at Blaamm Records have recently cleared some copyright problems that have been preventing the release of material from this period, but we have now a reissue programme on course for 2009. contact: info@blaammrecords.com for more info Read more on Last.fm.
