Dignen is based in Portland, OR and was formed in late 1997. The music is currently composed by four individuals Tim Roth, Ashley Carson, Ritchie Young, and Brian Gumpert. The first self titled album focuses on melodic, layered textures which move listeners to various moods. The vocalists trade lyrical suggestions and wrap words into the music. The songs are very dynamic and focused on personal experience. The 2nd album "The Years After The College Collapse" is more sparse and delicate than dignen's first album. With less going on it is easier to hear the melodies and rhythms that saturate this album. The music is catagorized as indie rock, or experimental rock . The band is driven by layered melodies and female vs male vocals that trade off with call and response, harmoies, and a solid driven rhythm. The band was orginally a 5 piece which relased a 7 inch record, and toured the United States. In 2001 the band reconfigured as a 3 piece including; guitar, keyboard and drums. Since this time the band has been building a studio and working on a third album.
