Forming in Busan, South Korea, Defector Frequency were a group of 3 bored expat English Teachers and a Korean University student out to fight boredom and make some fun and interesting music to dance to for themselves and the city they had come to live in. They included the two principle song writers John Rennie on guitar and vox (previously of Pushbike Army and born in Barrow, England) and Stu Dalziel on Synth (born in Lowestoft, England) along with Barry "Axe Handle" McGhee (from Glasgow, Scotland) on bass and Ahn Junyeong (from Busan, Korea) on drums. Violet Lea (from Gatesville, Texas) of the group Porko Lambro originally filled in on bass and helped with the recording of their first few demos before Barry was brought into the group. They quickly became locally famous among expats and many Koreans winning accolades for their high energy live shows. Their name came from their fascination with North Korea and the electronics they incorporated into their sound. The band broke up in December 2010 with the departure of Stu back to the UK. Read more on Last.fm.
