The Capital Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps was founded in 1992 by Rick Bays, current Corps Director. Capital Regiment was established to provide a program for youth that combines music and performance training, leadership, social and character development, and the challenge, excitement and self-discipline of drum and bugle corps competition. The first priority for the organization was to establish a solid financial base to support program operations. In 1994, Capital Regiment was licensed to run bingo and to this day, it is the primary means of support for the corps. In 1997, Capital Regiment established its first program: the Capital Regiment Indoor Percussion Ensemble. The drum line was very successful and finished 3rd place in the Independent World Class at the 1998 WGI Championships. The fall of 1998 marked the beginning of the drum and bugle corps program. The summer of 1999 was the premier season for the Capital Regiment Drum and Bugle Corps. The corps finished in 9th place in Division III at the Drum Corps International World Championships. The Premier Season, Capital Regiment performed a show called “Pure Imagination” that placed them in 9th place in Division III Championships in Sun Prairie, WI. The music was Pure Imagination, Inchworm, My Favorite Things, Toys in the Closet and Remembering Childhood. The second year for Capital Regiment, the corps performed a show called “Inspirations” that placed them in 6th place in Division III Championships in College Park, MD. The music was Delivers Us, River Lullaby, Through Heaven’s Eyes, The Burning Bush, Red Sea, When you Believe and Make His Praise Glorious. In 2001, Capital Regiment performed a show called “Chasing the Dragon” that placed them in 4th place in Division II Championships in Buffalo, NY. The music was Dralion, The Chase, The World of the Heart and Dragonheart. In 2002, Capital Regiment performed a show called “Climbing Everest” that placed them in 2nd place in Division II Championships in Madison, WI. The music was New Century Dawn, The Spirit Returns and Avalanche. In 2003, Capital Regiment performed a show called “A Brave New World” that placed them in 18th place in Division I Championships at Semifinals in Orlando, FL. The music was New World Symphony, Escapade, Journey of the Brave and Mysterious Mountain. In 2004, Capital Regiment performed a show called “Celebration of Life: Mind, Body and Spirit” that earned them a 14th place finish in Division I Championships at Semifinals in Denver, CO. The music was Ballet Exaltare, Hommage: Tapestry 2 and Scootin’ on Hardrock. In 2005, Capital Regiment performed a show called “Chiaroscuro” that placed them in 15th place at Division I Championship Semifinals in Foxboro, MA. The music was Symphonic Dances in Shades of Darkness and Light. In 2006, Capital Regiment performed a show called “Life Rhythms: Work, Rest, Play” that placed them in 16th place at Division I Championships at Semifinals in Madison, WI.
