Back Fish was a Indiepop / pop band from Skellefteå, Sweden. Back Fish was formed in late 1993 as Backfisch Blue by Katherine Bergstrom, Anna Wallmark, guitarist Linda Åkerlund and her twin sister Nina Åkerlund on drums. All members were then 17 years old and had met at a music lesson that autumn. They had seen the movie about The Doors and had one goal: to not play cover songs. Eventually they got a rehearsal space at the local recreation center south of Anderson in Skellefteå. They shortened the name to Backfisch and had two record labels that were interested. Around the same time as the band was signed to A West Side Fabrication Records, the Akerlund sisters left the band to be replaced by David Jackson (now Akerlund) and Elin Bohlin. The first demo was recorded in late 1994, and they had also started to get gigs including as opening act for The Wannadies and 22 Pistepirkko . In 1997 released their debut album It's Emily's, followed by single Add It / Disco. The album was produced by Ken Stringfellow , frontman of The Posies , who Anna Wallmark met at a concert in Stockholm and given a demo to. He liked it so much that he sent a postcard from Seattle a week later and in November 1996 came to Rome in order to produce the album on Rumble Road Studios . After their debut album they released two more singles, 'Fashion Mania' and 'How to be a Friend' before splitting up. Katherine Bergstrom released a critically acclaimed album under the name The Wilson Hospital in 2002. She currently records as Katie Goes to Tokyo and has released two albums (in 2006 and 2010). Read more on Last.fm.
