Auf dem Weg ins Kaufhaus erledigte ich noch einen kleinen Hauskauf (On the way to the warehouse I just did a little house buy). If his projectname sounds rather wacky, the music of 24 year-old Matthias Lehrberger is just the contrary: Quiet, tender and clearly structured soundscapes pour slowly out of the computer. His selftitled EP was the first release on Schinderwies outside early Müller recordings. Based on beats, both airy and creaky plus layers of spheric sound waves counterpointed by warm melodica melodies, the six untitled tracks give a taste for things to come: For his first full-length release Zwei (Two) Matthias created 10 tracks, again untitled and instrumental, which evolve into brilliant minimal song-sketches, equally digital and organic. Reminiscent to the sound of Oval or certain Traum-releases, the album starts out with pure ambient loops, later growing more and more complex, ending with sensitive minimal jazz – again featuring the brilliant melodica. Electronic music which is deep and soulful. For his second album Zufall für Alle (Coincidence for all) Lehrberger picks up the jazz threads and enriches his sound with several acoustic instruments: drums, trumpet, melodica, guitar, vibraphone.
