1. Ashes were an American post-hardcore band from Bethesda, Maryland. The band’s lineup consisted of lead vocalist Elena Ritchie, guitarist Brian McTernan, bassist Jack Radner, and drummer Matt Squire. Known for their hardcore-inspired sound blended with early emo elements, the band only lasted a few years, performing their first show in Washington, D.C., in December 1991, and their last in Syracuse, New York, in July 1995, where they disbanded shortly afterward. Ashes recorded two demos, released two EPs, and issued two compilation albums, one of which were Wisconsin Avenue Tour, a complete discography release that was issued through McTernan’s own label, Salad Days Studio, in 1998. 2. In 2001, with a similar line-up to the current one, they started to set their sound as post-grunge.
