Ann Christy (1945-1984; born Christiane Leenaerts) is a Flemish singer. Her most known songs are "Gelukkig Zijn", "De Roos" and "Dag Vreemde Man".
She began her carreer with the orchestra The Adams. The drummer, Marc Hoyois, would later become her husband. Her first record was called "Kussen onder regenbogen", but it didn't have much success. That would come when Robert Bylois became her new manager. She then sang French songs and toured through Belgium and France with Adamo.
Ann always dreamed of an international singing career. In 1975 she entered the eurovision song contest with the song "Gelukkig zijn". Part of it she sang in Dutch, part of it in English. She only reached 15th place. Disillusioned she returend home.
In 1977 she performed at the Mechels Miniatuur Theater (which is now called 't Arsenaal) in the musical Midzomernachtsdroom. It wasn't until 2005 that these songs would be put on an album.
In 1980 Ann Christy had her biggest hit with the song "De Roos", a cover of Bette Midler's "The Rose". It was translated by Johan Verminnen.
During a tour with Erik Van Neygen, Ann became very ill. Two years later she died of cancer at the young age of 38. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
