Needing a project to bridge the gap between his other very diverse projects Bouquet of Decay (soundtracks), ColdmaN5 (experimental comedy) and One Perfect Rose (pop), sole member Aaron Tom created ALTered Zero as a "landfill" for his ideas that did not fit into any of the above categories. The first official taste of this could be found in "Untitled", AZ’s debut demo album, which was released in a rough demo version on March 29th, 2008. Though hindered by terrible, non-existent production standards, and horrible recording techniques, the music itself was nevertheless strongly praised, thus begging for a proper studio version to be recorded and released. Four years since then have come and gone, but work on the project has continued in an on-again-off-again manner. In the meantime, "Untitled" has seen many improvements, such as a studio upgrade that has vastly increased the quality of the finished recordings, as well as the acquisition of new instruments that have also contributed greatly to its sound. But it also wasn't immune from devastating setbacks, like the sudden death of the man that was both "Untitled"'s mixing and mastering engineer, as well as Aaron Tom's own future brother-in-law. With that blow in August, 2010, the project was once again put on the shelf. Well now, the project has not only once again become front and center, but is just a few notes away from recorded completion. Then, it's off to be mixed, mastered, and finally pressed. The project is now anticipating a release date some time in 2012. This is the new "Untitled", the way it was meant to be heard, with every crunchy guitar, every keyboard chord, every screamed and clean vocal, and all of its devastating lyrics intact. In a world of money-obsessed label's whoring out their own manufactured artists all to make a quick buck, while simultaneously flooding airwaves and the television with unlistenable, cookie-cutter mediocrity, "Untitled" is an unpredictable, unique reminder that there are still some artists that are putting out music because they want to, not because they are reaching for the bright lights of fame. After all, they know that everything that burns bright must one day fade. Read more on Last.fm.
