AbsentStar formed in 2004 while recording their first record with producer C.S. Gladfelter at EQHQ in Chicago. The songs were there, but the band formed as the record was being tracked. It was released in early 2005 with a showcase at SXSW in Austin Texas soon to follow. The band continued to record and play throughout the year and were signed by A&R veteran Steve Ralbovsky then of RCA records. Ralbovsky recently was offered his own imprint at Columbia records and took AbsentStar with him to be his flagship project on the newly formed Canvas Back Music/Columbia.
