800 Cherries are the Tokyo-based Shibuya-kei duo of Manami Marufuji (マルフジマナミ, vocals/guitar/keyboards) and Masayuki Takahashi (高橋正之, guitar/bass/keyboards/production). They formed as a 3-piece unit in Sapporo in 1994 with Ritsuko Ôtera (オオテラリツコ), who left in 1997. The 800 Cherries sound has evolved from ethereal, acoustic, and guitar-based into a more electic style that incorporates electronic and glitch influences, but constant are the Japanese indie/electro pop staples of whispery vocals and tinkly keyboards. Their first album, piccolo, was released in 1995 on cassette tape. Their latest album, opuscula, was released in 2000.
