Tamila Sagaipova (Chechen: Тамила Сагаипова; born December 2, 1993) is a Chechen singer known for her performances in the Chechen and Russian languages. She gained prominence through her participation in the "Young Stars – 2" project and is recognized for her contributions to Chechen pop and folk music. Tamila Sagaipova was born in Grozny, the capital of the Chechen Republic, Russia. She is the daughter of Umar Sagaipov, a renowned accordionist and People's Artist of Chechnya. Her older half-sister, Makka Sagaipova, is also a celebrated Chechen singer and a member of the dance ensemble Lovzar. During her early years, Tamila's family relocated to Baku, Azerbaijan, before returning to Grozny during her teenage years. Encouraged by her family's musical background, she pursued vocal training and participated in various music competitions. Her breakthrough came with her involvement in the "Young Stars – 2" project, a Chechen counterpart to Russia's "Star Factory," which propelled her into the spotlight. Tamila Sagaipova's music blends elements of Chechen folk traditions with contemporary pop influences. She is known for performing in traditional attire, often covering her head and neck, and her performances are characterized by themes of love, homeland, and cultural heritage. In 2014, Tamila Sagaipova was reportedly involved in a controversy concerning Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov. She released a song titled "Мой нанак" ("My Nanak") that named several of Kadyrov's mistresses and mocked them, leading to tensions between the artist and the political figure. Kadyrov publicly criticized Chechen artists, including Tamila, for their lifestyles and performances, suggesting they did not align with Chechen cultural values. Tamila Sagaipova is married and has a son. Following her marriage, she stepped back from public performances, a decision that aligns with cultural norms in the region where married women often retire from public artistic careers. As of recent reports, she resides in Austria with her family. Read more on Last.fm.
