Born in Adana in 1944, Zafer Dilek (born Zafer Akansoy) devoted his life to music from the moment a mandolin gift in his youth set him on an enduring path. From his early days in the 1960s with the band Mavi Gölgeler to his move to Istanbul for university, he steadily built a career that bridged performance, composition, arrangement, and production. He played with influential groups and orchestras, appeared in cinema, and became a sought-after studio guitarist, while his arrangements and instrumental albums—particularly Oyun Havaları—left a lasting mark on Yeşilçam films, especially those starring Kemal Sunal. As a member of the Zafer–Banu–Hülya Trio, he produced celebrated recordings, including the widely loved Çukulata Sevgilim, and composed enduring songs such as Yaşadım mı, Öldüm mü. Collaborating across genres with artists like Arif Sağ, Selda Bağcan, Sezen Aksu, Bülent Ersoy, and Ajda Pekkan, he helped shape the sound of modern Turkish music.
