The Phoeron is the moniker of Canadian underground artist Colin J.E. Lupton. He is the founder and mastermind behind the evolving spiritual/philosophical system Phoeronism. He is an author of lyrics, poetry, mythology, short fiction, and occult non-fiction; a painter, photographer and visual artist; and a musician.
"the Phoeron" came to be in the fall of 2002 while Colin J.E. Lupton was living in a shelter for homeless youth in downtown Toronto. It was born out of his life-long interest in the Occult, and a very personal contempt for organized religion.
In 2003, the Phoeron was accepted into the University of Toronto, where he hoped to study Assyriology and Sumerology, and moved straight from the shelter system into Student Residence. He began recording music that very fall, slowly building up his bedroom studio, producing nine independent releases in first year alone. He began to identify his personal spiritual beliefs and philosophies as Phoeronism that fall as well.
In the summer of 2004, he was accepted on D-Trash Records and began work on his first serious album project, "The Absu Meditations." Work on the album was finished in September of 2004, but the album was not released until February of 2005 (DTRASH60).
By the time "the Absu Meditations" was released, the Phoeron had already finished his second album for D-TRASH, "The Church of the Phoeron of Latter-day Satanists," a seething five-track sermon condemning the stifling fundamentalist Mormon faith he grew up in. "the Church of the Phoeron..." was released October 2005 (DTRASH75).
After a year-long hiatus from recording, the Phoeron made an attempt to "get back to the point" with his third album, "L'Ambiençe - Symphony No. 1" (DTRASH82). He felt that "the Church of the Phoeron..." project had done more damage to Phoeronism than good, and that hatred was not the path he wanted to take in life. In combination with the short "Myth of Forest-dark," he released the instrumental journey through his subconscious in March of 2006.
In the summer of 2006, the Phoeron began development of his own underground Art label, Prohyptikon Art & Media. The label is dedicated to spiritually and philosophically inclined multi-medium artists.
The Phoeron and Schizoid of D-TRASH Records have agreed to release all future Phoeron albums as joint releases of D-TRASH Records and Prohyptikon Art & Media. Read more on Last.fm.
