In the summer of 1987, in Santa Rosa, Ca, Steven Cappello, vocalist, Gino Di Biasi, guitar player and drummer Eric Strand, left skate/punk band Vertical Urge. They decided they wanted to start a whole, other, kind of band with lead guitar player, Jason Takeuchi-Krist. They started writing some songs and liked it. They brought in a cousin of their former band's managers, bass player, Manuel Taulogan. They began playing around Santa Rosa and the San Francisco bay area and getting good rowdy response. In Jan. 1988, Scott Schirle replaced Eric Strand on drums. Manuel left in May 1988, and Gino took over on bass guitar. The band and their music evolved as a foursome, with everyone contributing to the writing of the music. The music kept the gritty edge that came with their punk roots, and Jason's mastery of noisy chaos. They had an original sound. They received some attention from a few record labels during the eighties. But no one was ready to take a big chance and make a deal with this noisy, risky band. They moved from Santa Rosa to San Francisco in the summer of 1989 but continued to rehearse in Santa Rosa. They played in the bay area and LA through Nov. 1989, when they played their last live show at their favorite venue, the Chatterbox, in San Francisco. The band made a maybe impulsive decision, to take a break at the peak of their popularity. That break became very extended. They finally got back together in the late 1990's, at the urging of Mark Smith, a long time friend and owner of Venture Beyond Records, to finally make an album. Absorb the Shock, Feel the Religion was released in 1999. Stone Juju hasn't performed live again though, so far. Read more on Last.fm.
