So Weiss is a German jazz trio formed in 2002. To date, they have released two full length albums (2004's Hunter/Dreamer and 2008's Happiness for a Moment). The music of So Weiss consists of finely arranged songs from the pen of the half-American Susanne Folk, capable of satisfying a pop audience, but promise the listener - thanks to Kristiina Tuomi's voice which ranges from fragile to dark and smoky - an authenticity so often missed. As the foundation: Roland Fidezius' warm double bass, sometimes adding a generous line, is always in the midst of the lively, intimate dialogue with the vocals and the saxophone. The group's name, So Weiss, echoed in the title of the piece So White, derives from a line of dramatic dialogue between Lady Macbeth and her husband just after the latter has killed the king and his unscrupulous wife wants to wash away his feelings of guilt a symbolic scene for just this fluctuation between light and dark that in the course of the album journeys between Scandinavia, old Britain and young Berlin.
