Born in Buga, Valle, on April 17, 1942, the master Ruth Marulanda Salazar is, without a doubt, a pioneer in the performance of Colombian Andean music on piano. Her classical training has allowed her to delve into the popular sounds of the bambuco, the corridor, the waltzes and the dances with unique skill and sensitivity.
The pianist began her studies in her homeland with professor Carmen Vicaría de Escobar and later, based in Bogotá, she would enter the Conservatory of the National University, where she perfected the execution of the instrument before traveling for more than two years to Vienna, scholarship by the government to carry out postgraduate studies. Due to an accident that immobilized the thumb of her right hand for a long time, she specialized in the classical repertoire for the left hand in the Austrian capital.
Once she returned to Colombia, the master became interested in the sound of traditional and contemporary composers of Colombian Andean music, music that she began to explore with her solo piano, with tiple trio and guitar, and in a duet with the organ of the distinguished Antioquian master. Jaime Llano Gonzalez. In these formats, she has recorded several records and participated in countless concerts in Colombia and abroad.
