Russian Winters debut album LAST BATTLES was released nationally on Sept 23 2011.
"beautifully constructed . . elements of early Radiohead"
Drum Media CD of the Week (for Last Battles)
"accomplished, adventurous and completely engaging . .one of the most talented songwriting collectives in WA and indeed the country."
The Wire Mag based indie rock band, Russian Winters’ anticipated debut album, Last Battles is out now.
First single, Pacific has received airplay and attention from around the country:
“killer indie . . . with a dirty, sinister edge . . . can't wait to hear more.”
Dan Buhagiar – Triple J
“a possible summer anthem. Feast your ears . . . get ready for much bigger things from these guys.”
Cam Findlay – Drum Media Single of the Week
Last Battles was recorded at Blackbird Studios with producer Dave Parkin (Jebediah, Sons of Rico, Snowman).
With this LP, Russian Winters establish themselves as a dark horse of the Australian indie rock scene. A trip through shoegaze pop and distorted rock harmonies, Last Battles explores a rich vein of melancholy with grandly soaring guitars, fluid rhythms and “one of the more powerful uses of a horn section of late.”
The band was hand-picked by Triple J to play Parklife Perth in 2011 and Pacific was Single of the Week in Drum Media.
Live, Russian Winters present something beyond the standard indie rock set-up, incorporating trumpets, synths and harmonica into their guitar-driven sound. Triple J’s Dom Alessio described their 2011 WAMi performance as, “like a more aggressive Foals . . . loaded with nuances and great rhythms.”
Keep your eyes out for an album tour in 2012.
