Robert Hedge is a singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist, based in southern Ontario, Canada. As a member of Kickstand Travolta, Elle, and Shannon Weir and the Even Strangers, he released 3 independent albums. In 2007, he put out his first solo album, “Howling At The Sun”, and has recently pressed a new vinyl E.P., “The Observer”, both on his own label, Blackbox Records. In the fall of 2008, he joined Toronto's Bellevue on guitar and backing voice. He has produced other artists and composed for film and television. Fiercely original, Robert's songs convey deeply his personal accounts and observations while remaining open and accessible to the listener. The arrangements and production are richly layered and offer subtle surprises, but never diminish the impact of the core idea – the song. Beauty, fear, anger, longing and humour are each expressed as simply and directly as one might offer the time of day. These are words and melodies sung with a voice that conveys truth. “After years of playing in bands, I wanted to step back and determine what the most important thing to me was. And that is my solo work. It's what drives me, and it's the only creative process I've been part of that feels totally authentic. I have an enthusiasm for performing that I haven't felt in a long time because the songs I'm singing represent me fully.” Robert lives in downtown Toronto with his new baby boy, Barrett. “Car 5342” from the new E.P. and “Funerals and Forgotten Promises” from the first solo album have just been licensed to award winning director Jeff Kopas' new film, 'The Insignificance Of hArvey'.
