A Bronx duo remembered for "We Belong Together," a beautiful harmony ballad that made the Top 40 in 1958, Robert Carr and Johnny Mitchell made about a dozen singles for the Old Town label in the late '50s and early '60s, none of which made remotely as much impact. As one-hit doo wop wonders go, though, they were more interesting than most. They wrote almost all of their material and had a pleasingly distinctive contrast between their closely harmonized voices (one smoky, one nasal). They also covered a more versatile ground than most acts of the genre, proving capable at up-tempo bluesy numbers as well as ballads.
