Richard Rohr O.F.M. (born in 1943 in Kansas) is a Franciscan priest, writer, and internationally known inspirational speaker. He was ordained to the priesthood in 1970.
Rohr was the founder of the New Jerusalem Community in Cincinnati, Ohio in 1971 and the Center for Action and Contemplation in Albuquerque, New Mexico in 1986 where he presently serves as Founding Director.
Scripture as liberation, the integration of action and contemplation, community building, peace and justice issues, male spirituality, the Enneagram of Personality and eco-spirituality are themes that he addresses in his writing and preaching.
Rohr's critics cite his affiliation with the dissenting group Call to Action and his stance on homosexuality and the Enneagram of Personality as contradicting Roman Catholic teaching. He is best known for his writings on spirituality and his audio and video recordings. His most popular recording is The NEW Great Themes of Scripture.
Rohr is a contributing editor and writer for Sojourners Magazine and also writes for the National Catholic Reporter. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
