"Music For Dope Runs" by Lush One and Phillipdrummond---This album is more like a graphic novel. A 3 year + long journey into the minds of the psychedelic and the psychopathic. San Francisco, CA born and New York raised boom-bap producer Phillipdrummond and Los Angeles born and Oakland residing controversial lunatic rapper Lush One (known for his work in up and coming juggernaut force in the music industry Delinquent Monastery also known as DelMon Crew as well as one of the West Coast's top battle emcees from Grind Time and jumpoff.tv WRC). The album consists of twisted first hand narratives recounting experiences in California's underworld drug culture, showcasing many elements such as the paranoia and struggle of the many lives affected by 'the hustle.' Many stories interweave throughout the album and bring about the constant metaphor of a 'dope run' correlating to each person's own personal self-discovery. THIS ALBUM DOES NOT CONDONE DRUG RUNNING...but it does sound pretty good when your high...or sober...or on shrooms. All of this is set to a rich tapestry of unique samples and head noddin' drums juxtaposed with a distinctly FRESH COAST synth flavor. Phillipdrummond and Lush work very well together and the cohesive sound of the album is a more cerebral alternative to Lush's more 'hardcore/clubbed out' work with DelMon. Hopefully this album serves as a piece of art and a refreshing testament to song craftsmanship for years to come... Or if not, the cover art looks really good to roll up on. Read more on Last.fm.
