Heavy rock with emotive lyrics and a metal edge, Overtheory is known for energetic live performances and powerful original music. The band emerged in the Columbus, OH music scene in January 2011, releasing their first EP, Echoes of Action. In 2012, Overtheory performed live on the Columbus rock station 99.7 The Blitz, and won 1st place in the Battle of the Bands at Captain Jack’s, earning them a studio contract with Fishtank Audio. The band has performed at venues including Alrosa Villa, Newport Music Hall and Screamin’ Willies. Overtheory's influences include bands such as Breaking Benjamin, Chevelle, Three Days Grace, and Alter Bridge.
