There are two bands that share the name Nektar: 1. Nektar is a German rock band formed in Hamburg in 1969 by Allan Freeman (keyboards and vocals), Roye Albrighton (guitars and vocals), Derek More (bass, Mellotron, and vocals), and Ron Howden (drums). The band’s early albums drew on hard rock and space-rock influences, including the styles of Pink Floyd. During the 1970s, Nektar released several concept albums, including "A Tab in the Ocean" (1972), "Remember the Future" (1973), and "Recycled" (1975), blending melodic guitar, keyboards, and narrative vocals. "Journey to the Centre of the Eye" is an extended suite featuring echoplex guitar and dual Mellotrons, reflecting elements of Krautrock while retaining a British progressive rock approach. Later albums, such as "Magic Is a Child", featured shorter songs. Nektar’s back catalogue has been remastered and reissued, and the band has continued touring, with bassist Peter Pichl joining for recent tours. A studio album, "Book of Days", was scheduled for release on 20 March 2007 through EMI – Caroline. 2. Nektar is also a Swedish indie rock band formed in Gothenburg in 2024. The group consists of Ilean Arvman Nelson (guitar and vocals), Isak Zander (drums), Leo Larsson (guitar), Elliot Axelsson Olsson (bass), and Zion Merking (keyboard and percussion). The band originated when Arvman Nelson shared a song with Zander, leading to the formation of a duo, which later expanded with the addition of Larsson and Axelsson Olsson, and subsequently Merking. The members, born between 2005 and 2007, had prior experience in other band formations. Nektar released their debut single, "Sitt ner (Lilla jag)", in July 2024, followed by their first album, "Magnolia", in September 2024. The album includes tracks such as "Älskar dig (oändligt föralltid)" ("Love You (Endlessly Forever)"), "Sitt ner (Lilla jag)" ("Sit Down (Little Me)"), and "Tidsfördriv" ("Pastime"). Their music combines melodic indie rock with traditional band instrumentation, and their most successful track has reached approximately 150,000 streams. Read more on Last.fm.
