"Naetholix" is a pseudonym for a musical and visual artist probably better-known as Steve Hayes of Chilliwack, British Columbia. "Naetholix" is a pseudonym for a musical and visual artist probably better-known as Steve Hayes of Chilliwack, British Columbia. Born in '88, Steve wasn't much more than a chronic doodler until the age of 12 when he took some drum lessons and got his first drum-kit. This he picked up rather quickly, growing a love for the instrument and soon for music through playing in school-band. His dad, being a guitarist, allowed him to pick-up other instruments and, after watching him struggle to record what simple songs he could write on an old tape-recorder, bought him a Yamaha AW16G digital recorder. From here, he spent endless hours just playing and recording songs in his free time. He used whatever he could get his hands on: cheap microphones duct-taped to microphone-booms constructed out of broomsticks, his dad's guitars and amps, any music-recording tips he could glean from the internet and whatever effects banks he could find built into his Yamaha.
Now he works with his own equipment: An Epiphone SG 6-string electric, a Yamaha 5-string Bass, Zoom R16 digital recorder working as an interface for Steinberg Cubase on his laptop, Yamaha drumkit, Apex drum microphones and REAL microphone booms (not broomsticks). He's a fan of Sabian hand-hammered cymbals, Line 6 amps and Vic Firth 2B nylon-tip sticks.
Steve listens to a lot of music but wouldn't say his style was influenced by anyone in particular. His sole purpose for writing music is recreational: he writes what he wants to hear. In his early years of composing, he listened mostly to Dream Theater, Korn, and Porcupine Tree; now, on top of those groups, he's also enjoying Meshuggah, Sybreed, Mnemic, Bleed the Sky and the works of E.S. Posthumus.
Steve also loves to draw. Search the web for "Naetholix" if you're interested. <a href="https://www.last.fm/music/Naetholix">Read more on Last.fm</a>. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
