Morgana Athena first formed in the early 1990s, creating a sound and show that was both haunting and beautiful. After releasing the book-and-cassette combo "Doorways" in the mid-90s, the band members parted ways, but singer/guitarist Chris Naser and bassist Chris Jensen persisted with the assist of electronic percussion. At this time, Morgana joined a number of other dark-themed, Las Vegas-based bands to form a musical collective called "Still Hour Productions," which was the name of Morgana's indie label. Soon after, the lineup of Morgana Athena was shaken again with the addition of Dave Taylor on guitar and Dru Broils replacing Jensen on bass duties. By the fall of that year, Ryan Couevas and Brian Pfiefer of Rahne had joined Morgana and Taylor left, leaving a hole open for another guitarist. The band was still performing Naser's songs, most of which from the album "3," but began to write more aggressive songs geared toward live instrumentation. Almost by accident, Pj Perez, lead singer of Rahne, joined with his former bandmates as the lead guitarist of Morgana, and the new, five-piece line-up debuted on Halloween. Shortly thereafter, Morgana earned a spot on "Dim View of the Future," a new gothic rock compilation from Hollows Hills Recordings. The band wrote, recorded and performed together until the fall of 1998, when Naser left to pursue a career as an electronica DJ. Read more on Last.fm.
