Mohon Sharif is a Bangladeshi singer, songwriter and composer. He first gained attention with the song “Mombati” from the film Komola Rocket in 2018, and rose to fame with “Jontrona” from the 2019 film No Dorai.
Mohon was born in Zurich, Switzerland, where he lived with his parents, Sharif Santu and Sharif Monika, and older brother Sharif Miron. At the age of six, his family moved back to Dhaka, Bangladesh. He was enrolled in music school as a child and later completed his schooling at private institutions in the city. Though he briefly attended two universities, he dropped out within days, uninterested in formal studies.
In 2019, Mohon moved to Canada to study Visual Effects (VFX). After completing his studies, he returned to Dhaka in 2022 and took up a well-paying job, but soon quit to fully dedicate himself to music.
He began his career in playback singing with “Mombati”, followed by “Jontrona”, which made him an overnight success. However, after his breakout, Mohon went on a long hiatus, releasing no music for nearly four years.
In late 2024, he made his comeback with a string of singles “Ondhokari”, “Toofani”, “Projapoti”, and “Dhumketu” released one after another, reintroducing him as one of the most exciting voices in Bangladesh’s independent music scene.
In 2025, Mohon released “Get Up" featuring underground rapper Badbalenci, an English song that pushed his sound to an international level. The track was paired with a self-directed music video and marked his bold step into the global hip-hop arena.
Looking ahead, Mohon has announced that he has recorded around 40 new songs, blending Bangla and English. He plans to release them gradually, with music videos dropping every Friday, aiming to share the entire catalog by February 2026.
Mohon’s style is rooted in hip-hop, a genre he grew up with and embraced during his time in Canada. While most of his music is in Bangla, he has increasingly been creating in English to reach a wider audience. Unlike many artists, he prefers releasing directly to YouTube from his home studio rather than putting out traditional albums or performing live. Read more on Last.fm.
