Hypervigilant, perfectionist, and empathic are words Mitch Walcott chooses to describe himself. Clinically diagnosed with OCD in 2003, he has a different outlook on life and music than when he started making tracks in 1994. His first big break came in 2001 when Carl Craig selected him to open up the Sunday set on the Underground Stage at the Detroit Electronic Music Festival (DEMF). After his debut performance, Mitch submitted some demos to Jeff Mills (Axis Records). In April 2002, Jeff Mills released Walcott’s debut album “Europa” on his sub-label, Tomorrow. Around the same time, Mitch also helped co-invent an analog synthesizer for the German manufacturer, Vermona. The result was the PerFourMer and it has been globally available for purchase since late 2002. “Titan” was the next project that Mitch produced in 2003. It was briefly available as a free MP3 download from his web site, but then the tracks lay somewhat dormant for nearly four years. Already being friends with Dimitri Pike for a few years, Walcott thought that it only made sense for “Titan” to be released for free on Wildub in 2007. Feeling burned out from live performances, Mitch stopped performing in December of 2005. Since then, he has created a 5.1 surround sound studio in his basement. He has researched and purchased various pieces of MIDI and audio software in an attempt to break free of bad compositional habits. Walcott now mostly spends time thinking about building analog synthesizers and moving out to New Mexico (near the Very Large Array) in an attempt to get away from the mental distractions he faces daily in Michigan. <a href="https://www.last.fm/music/Mitch+Walcott">Read more on Last.fm</a>.
