Leah Capelle is an award-winning Singer-Songwriter from Winnetka; a suburb of Chicago, IL. Leah began taking piano lessons at six, writing songs at the age of eight, and by ten took up professional voice lessons by instructor Janice Pantazelos, founder and head teacher of the Chicago Studio of Professional Singing. Soon after, while learning guitar, Leah began to perform live around the Chicagoland area at thirteen; which included frequent open mics at the late Hanson Brothers blues bar. By sixteen, Leah was being booked for paid gigs.
In the winter of 2011, as a Sophomore in High School, she won second place in The Next Big Thing band competition held at The Metro in Chicago. It was her first time competing in any competition, and she was the only solo act out of around 100 bands. At the end of her Senior year, Leah spent six weeks assistant teaching music at her elementary school, leading songwriting sessions and drum circles, and helping produce the Spring Sing Concert. From 2013-2014, she attended Berklee College of Music. At Berklee, she was a dual major in Professional Music (focus in Songwriting and Performance) and Music Business. She developed a love for the Music Business in an intro class taught by Professor George Howard (TuneCore). Leah currently lives in Los Angeles and just finished recording her Freshman album with Grammy winning producer, Jeff Bova (Blondie, Celine Dion). Leah also has frequent song-writing sessions with internationally known guitarist, Pete DiStefano (Porno for Pyros, Lance Herbstrong).
Leah has been described as a young Stevie Nicks/Joni Mitchell, though her music is uniquely her own. She gains inspiration from the likes of Sara Bareilles, Ingrid Michaelson, Regina Spektor, and her friends and family. As many of her songs are about personal experiences, she accredits all her hard work to those around her. Read more on Last.fm.
