Kites On Coast is the project from Pieter-Jan Van Den Troost (also frontman from the indierock band Willow) who started creating and recording songs on barbaric recording devices in his bedroom in September 2007. After the first song, Motel, he’d put a new song on the internet from time to time.
In January 2009 Gerrit Kerremans suddenly selected the song Sleep Walk for Vi.be On Air. The Studio Brussel jury seemed to like it as well and the song won airplay on national radio. The intention was never to get Kites On Coast on stage, but when interest in live performances was growing, Pieter-Jan finally decided to transfer his songs to a live setting. To do this, he asked some of his best friends to help him.
Kites On Coast's songs are filled with intimate and naive melancholy with sudden surprises and are always accompanied with a speck of hope. Many instruments and layered vocal harmonies are used to create a unique atmosphere of melodic dreaminess and fragile honesty.
