After receiving a degree in literature, Jody Pou moved to France from the US, where she was born, and became a member of the lyric class at the Paris Conservatory where she earned a unanimous first prize in 1999. She was then accepted into the Baroque class of the same conservatory, where she studied with Kenneth Weiss, Michel Laplénie, Jean Tubéry and David Simpson, among others. She received a first prize in Baroque music in a unanimous decision from the jury in 2002.
Jody has won prizes in two International Baroque competitions, the oratorio prize in the International Singing Competition of Clermont Ferrand In October, 2003, and the Printemps Baroque du Sablon prize in the International Baroque Singing Competition of Chimay in Belgium, presided by William Christie; a prize which awarded her a recital in the festival of the same name in April 2004 in Brussels.
She has worked under the direction of Malgoire in France, and Martinini in Italy.
She has given many recitals and sung in many festivals with many ensembles throughout Europe since or during her Baroque studies at the Paris conservatory.
Particularly touched by the modern repertory, Jody Pou has sung and premiered pieces by the composers Pascal Dusapin, György Ligeti, György Kurtág, Georges Aperghis, Gérard Pesson, Mauro Lanza, Igor Ballereau, Brice Pauset, and has recorded the disc, Chants Sérieux, with music by Maurice Delaistier, Barrocco, by Mauro Lanza and Forever Valley by Gérard Pesson.
In 2007, she sang the soprano solo of Adventures and New Adventures by György Ligeti in a staged production with the ensemble Justiniana at the Paris Opéra, Bastille.
Jody moved to New York City in 2007 and founded the production company Shsk'h LLC wiith composer Igor Ballereau. Shsk'h is a net label, shskh.com (http://www.shskh.com/www/), which promotes her recordings and the compositions of Mr. Ballereau. It will also be producing commissions by other composers and musicians.
