Jo Kira, is a clear example that your experiences that happen to you have as you grow up as a child will have a big effect and route out what you do as you get older. With Jo Kira she was brought up alongside side brothers who had a passion for house music.
Jo Kira first pocket money instalment was spent on Thomas Bangalter's 'Trax On Da Rocks Vol. 1'. Other schoolchildren are buying sweets to get their fix for their sweet tooth; Jo Kira was buying EPs to get her music fix.
At an early age, she was out buying vinyl’s so she could learn how to mix the songs she loved. With a bit of help and guidance from her brother she quickly brought together the skills of beat matching and mixing itself. Her brother, Jason Fakeerah helped to mould Jo Kira to new sounds and genres broadening that love for music. Her musical preferences soon progressed, with artists such as the S men, Barbara Tucker, Tuff & Jam and Masters At Work greatly influencing Jo’s musical style behind the decks. Jo’s dedication to spend her money on vinyl’s and spending hours behind the decks soon paid off, when she landed her first ever gig at an all-girl DJ night called 'Love At First Sight'. First gig done, the bug was caught and marked the beginning of a promising involvement within the local music scene. Jo secured a residency at the night, and along with her female counterparts, brought a unique sound to the Leeds masses. With a ever growing music collection to take from gig to gig Jo Kira has began to find her sound which she sees as “an incorporate tough jackin’ beats along with funky vocals”.
Nevertheless, you did not have to have a statement from her to know that, just listen to any one of her own productions. Cheeky and catchy! Jo has now established herself as a skilled and talented DJ and Producer who is well received and respected on the Northern Club Circuit. Now on a mission for the rest of the UK it is only a matter of time before she explodes. With a talented ear, hands and knowledge of music she knows what people and seems destined to become one of the top female DJing talents in the years to come. Being a female DJ gives the people a refreshing lift from a job that is dominated by men. If anything, I would believe this to make Jo Kira more determined in her work, also not a person to do things by half! It can only pave the way for the UK to see more female DJs playing and headlining large events Jo Kira has also landed herself a primetime DJ slot every Thursday on Radio Frequency. From experience, I wouldn't really call it a radio show? More of a "Jo Kira Weekly Essential Mix.' For 2 hours, you will hear Ramadanman, the latest Jamie xx remixes, Sam Tiba, Kingdom, French Fries, Brodinksi...her own tracks. You are getting an idea of the show. A radio slot dedicated to anything HOUSE, GARAGE & BASS! Famous or infamous, a great show to discover new tracks from around the globe or your local city! Jo Kira has had releases and remixes on labels Venga Digital, Satans Circus Records, Freek Records, Street Life DJ's, DJ's Are Not Rockstars and OMG Recordings. Not bad for a girl. Read more on Last.fm. User-contributed text is available under the Creative Commons By-SA License; additional terms may apply.
