Horst Evers (real name Gerd Winter; born February 8, 1967, in Diepholz) is a German author and cabaret artist. Evers grew up on a farm in Evershorst near Diepholz. He attended elementary school in Stemshorn and Lemförde and completed his Abitur at the Graf-Friedrich-Schule in Diepholz. He then studied German and social studies at the Free University of Berlin, but did not finish his studies. During his time as a student, he wrote his first texts, which he published in the magazine Salbader, which he co-founded, and later performed publicly himself. He turns small, absurd incidents and observations from everyday life into pointed and humorous anecdotes or song lyrics. To give the readers of Salbader the impression of a larger number of authors, the founders decided to work with various pseudonyms. Evers chose to use his hometown of Evershorst as a template and swapped the two parts of the name. Since he was particularly successful under this pseudonym, he kept it. In 1990, he founded the text-reading show Dr. Seltsam's Frühschoppen. Inspired by the Berlin administrative reform of 2001, Evers created a cycle of songs about Berlin's districts to well-known melodies, which he performs together with Benedikt Eichhorn. The original lyrics of the melodies used often have a thematic connection to the description of the respective district or stand in stark contrast to it. For example, for the song about Spandau, a district on the western edge of Berlin, the melody of Petula Clark's Downtown was chosen. For several years now, short chapters read by Evers have been broadcast weekly on magazine programs on Radio Eins. Evers lives with his girlfriend and daughter in Berlin. Read more on Last.fm.
