The band “Haifa Chemicals” was founded in 2007, by Tom Gurion and Erez Dascal. At the time, the two studied music at the University of Haifa, and worked side by side at the youth center “Hamiklat” (the shelter) in Bat-Galim, Haifa, which was founded by Dascal together with friends two years earlier. At the beginning the two were occupied mainly by searching for a drummer who will best fit the genre, and will show sufficient seriousness. The search for the right drummer went on for about a year, at the end of which Gideon Carmel joined in, from a year’s time. During this year the band established a unique genre (Hora-Punk), produced original materials into audible song, and went on their first tour at Haifa, Tel-Aviv and northern Israel. During this period came to light some known and beloved song such as “After This I Fly”, “Yankale’s Tea Party”, “Shtuyot”, “Hood” and more. The word started to spread, and soon enough the band became known amongst the people who heard of it, which were a small but very fine bunch of 34 people throughout Israel, and even one from Germany. After four months of performances, Carmel had decided that working with “Haifa Chemicals” is not bearing enough fruits, and had quit the band. Before his retirement the three have managed to record three songs at DB Studios, with Yoav Shdema as the sound engineer. These songs have later been published in their first album, “Side A’ Cancer”, and were regarded as a great success at all radio stations in Minsk, Ramle and Tul-Karem. After the blow it took Gurion and Dascal a long period of time to re-gather their strength, during which they had relentlessly been seeking a new drummer. After a few failures, Dani Blich was found most suitable, and was immediately snatched. In November 2009 the band goes out for their first tour in the renewed status. Read more on Last.fm.
