Montgomery released three albums and an EP under the name Nichard Dixon, the first of which were dominated by an overarching lo-fi production style and minimalist instrumentation. The sound drastically changed direction on 'In Sound', released in August of 2017 and incorporating heavy use of sampling and featuring collaborations with Abishi and Patricia Taxxon.
In March of 2018, Nichard Dixon officially changed its name to Gulf. and released 'Post Autumn Hymnal': Montgomery's most well received album to date. The album was a more subdued, melancholic, and depressive concept album than 'In Sound' and incorporated samples as bridging elements between songs, and in some cases, the very defining element of the song itself among layered vocal lines and moody synths and piano.
Gulf. announced a new album "Terrified Before The Joy" in October of 2019, but the record has been delayed due to Montgomery's move south and the COVID-19 pandemic, though two singles have been released from the record.
Montgomery has claimed to be directly influenced by Sparklehorse, Pavement, Coldplay, Radiohead, Flotation Toy Warning, and Sigur Ros among other things.
