Biography
Gnomefoam is Steve Bromley, from Bradford, UK. In the first minutes of 2008, the sky flared with fireworks and Gnomefoam was born. A New Year's Resolution was made: to record the sounds that had been bouncing around the inside of his skull for many years. Steve couldn’t play any musical instruments – but that’s no barrier to music making! He had a passion, and he was going to act. In the first week of Gnomefoam's new life, he sculpted the Frozen Freedom EP <a href="https://www.last.fm/music/Gn...Read more on Last.fm

In the first week of Gnomefoam's new life, he sculpted the Frozen Freedom EP, an EP of scratchy, experimental material made up of found sounds and musical elements that had little regard for genre or sound quality. Two similar EPs followed - The benefits of decay and Palimpsest Whispers. These EPs were mostly instrumental, but with occasional lyrical elements about the claustrophobia of "Northern Life". This lyrical concern has survived into later Gnomefoam, along with a gleeful disregard for genre boundaries and a love of sample abuse.
Over time, his skills have improved and the early scratchy experiments have led to the new Gnomefoam! This year’s album, Squirrelcore is a perfect example: hip hop influenced synth pop, with garage punk and dubstep influences. As ever, that disregard for genre lives on. In the days of iTunes and Spotify, music fans are more widely listened than ever before, and these genre boundaries need breaking down. Read more on Last.fm.
