Biography
Gia’s love for making music started at a very young age. Because she grew up in a musical family there were always people around who would join in and jam in the kitchen. The kitchen was where it all happened, as it was equipped with a piano, drums and guitar. That’s how Gia started cultivating her skills in both writing and freestyling. “You couldn’t escape the music in our family. My mother is a poet and my father and brothers are musicians”. <a href="https://www.last.fm/music/Gia+Mellish">Rea...Read more on Last.fm

In 2003 Gia started studying at the Rock Academy in the Netherlands. From the start she worked intensively with different producers from her school. She sang in a live hip hop band and wrote and released tracks with several house producers Gia’s inspiration comes mainly from soul and funk records played by her father like Stevie Wonder and Earth Wind and Fire but when she was introduced to house music through her brother, she was instantly hooked.. From then on her focus was mainly on house music and Gia worked with different house producers, releasing on on labels such as M.O.S, Hed Kendi, Defected and Spinnin’ Records. She also took her music to the clubs and sang live with dj’s like Kosheen, Sandie Rivera and Ron Carol. Gia loved freestyling over house records but she also felt the need to sing her own songs. She started writing songs, not only for herself but also for other artists. With this experience at hand she was able to write her own album. Eventually all she needed was a producer who understood her as a personality and as a singer, then she met Sébastien Léger. Gia Mellish’s first release “Hypnotized” end 2006 produced by Sébastien Léger was an instant club hit in the UK, France and Australia. After the success of “Hypnotized”, the duo decided to combine forces and record a full length album focused on Gia as a solo artist. Gia’s music can best be described as electronic, sexy, funky pop music, with of course an edge to it, and that’s the Léger “House” sound. “Ice Cream Castles” lets go of the many clichés found in most pop albums, which makes it sound refreshingly different. “There are no rules in music and that was key to creating the album “says Gia.
