Gold is a hard-hitting, rhythm-driven nightmare that rocketed out of Chicago in 09, touring throughout the Midwest and in Spain. Their sound embodies the sordid fun of AC/DC, the tastefulness of Chuck Berry, and the bold immodesty of Ernest Hemingway on cocaine. Known for their in your face, energetic performances, and unconventional song writing, Gold is one of the most blistering rock bands on the circuit today. Gold was founded in 2006 by guitarists Jess Northup and Michael McSherry. It represents the second incarnation of Northup’s unorthodox blending of wild, riffing guitars and off kilter rhythms (Van Allen Belt was the first). The band released their first EP, Here’s Where You Find Yourself in 2007 with drummer Nick Sherman (Light Pollution) to great applause in the Chicago underground. Now it’s 2010 and Gold is finally releasing a full-length. On Snowflake Island, the band replaced Sherman with the formidable Kevin Vlack (formerly of The Narrator). On their first LP, the band somehow manages to get simultaneously more raucous and sophisticated, but that’s nothing new for a band that’s used to being characterized by it’s own contradictions. Their music is angular but catchy, aggressive but thoughtful, unconventional but steeped in tradition. So yes, trying to imagine or even describe Gold's sound is difficult. They live somewhere between Arnold Schoenberg and AC/DC, and frankly, that's a pretty good place to live. Read more on Last.fm.
