In just over a year Sydneys Furcurve have moved from strength to strength. The four Newtown locals have shared the stage with some of Australia's biggest alternative heavyweights including The Nation Blue, The Getaway Plan, The Amity Affliction, A Secret Death, The Knives of Neptune, Twin City Faction, The Abandonment and Art Vandelay, as well as playing with international acts, Some Girls (USA), and My Precious (SINGAPORE). Recently, Furcurve released their debut EP, Red Telephone at The Thieves Guild, a four track blast of post-genre noise guaranteed to harpoon the chest of every self-respecting fan of thoughtful, original music.
Red Telephone at The Thieves Guild is as violent as it is eclectic; each moment shifting between raw disarray and thoughtful complexity without a single drop in consistency. From the powerful opening track Junk Moves, to the punk rock stylings of Zoo Opens with a Cockfight, its immediately apparent Furcurve are on to something special with their unique sound, this is further cemented in the technically proficient chaos that is entombed within the last two tracks, Calligraphy and A Cardboard City Digests With Ease.
Drawing comparisons to such varied bands as Will Haven, The Cure, Blood Brothers, Clutch and Refused, Furcurve unite their respective aural influences in a cacophony of noise that is actually something completely different. For Furcurve, the music is but one portion of a larger picture; inclusive in their angular spin on metal, punk, hardcore and rock is a chaotic live show that has often been described as a sexed up train wreck.
Tracks from the EP are currently doing the rounds on Short.Fast.Loud. on Triple J, and a sample track can also be downloaded from the bands Myspace and mp3.com.au accounts, or their own website, www.furcurve.com
