Frontierer is a mathcore collective formed in 2012, operating between Edinburgh, Scotland and Missouri, USA. Originally a bedroom project created by Scottish guitarist and primary songwriter Pedram Valiani and American vocalist Chad Kapper, the band has since expanded into a full touring ensemble. The current lineup includes Chad Kapper (vocals), Pedram Valiani (guitar), Dan Stevenson (guitar), Calum Craig (bass), and Owen Hughes (drums). Their debut release, The Collapse (2013), introduced their abrasive, sample-infused style. This was followed by Orange Mathematics (2015), a dense and experimental album that earned critical acclaim, including a spot in Rolling Stone Magazine's Best Metal Albums. Unloved (2018) elevated the ferocity and extremity of their sound, while Oxidized (2021) showcased ambitious scope and dense layering. Their latest offering is the EP THE SKULL BURNED WEARING HELL LIKE A LIFE VEST AS THE NIGHT WEPT, released on December 20, 2024. Frontierer's music is rooted in mathcore and extreme metal, incorporating electronic textures, glitch elements, and noise influences. The band describes their sound as "sonic terror," characterized by chaotic time signatures, programmed percussion, heavily distorted production, and abrasive vocal delivery.
