Cotton Island's main author is David Lin, supported by childhood friend Jachin Pousson. After an active period of performing in Singapore from 2007-2009, they spent some years apart before reuniting in Rīga, Latvia in 2015. Since coming back together, they have begun performing again in various local venues, mini-festivals and live radio shows. This year, the lineup has been expanded to include Erna Daugaviete, cello, and Dmitrijs Rastoropovs, keyboards, fulfilling the band's intentions for a much fuller sound. The band's music contains romantic and melancholy melodies inspired by Lin's colourful and unique experiences living in many countries and circumstances over the years. Stylistically, Cotton Island takes after artists such as Damien Rice, Radiohead, Coldplay, Fleet Foxes and Arcade Fire to mention a few.
