Los Angeles-based brecnmari consists of Brecon Richards and Mariana Bandhold. Both are singer-songwriter-producers who share a love of dance music and melodic pop and decided in 2018 to form a duo-project focused on creatively blending these two genres. Originally from San Francisco, Brecon was a drummer from age seven, playing percussion styles from rock to pop to jazz and often performed live at the popular Red House Studios. As a teenager Brecon fell in love with electronic dance music and quickly developed skills as a DJ, a passion which continues today. While attending Santa Barbara City College, Brecon realized his love of music and talents as a musician needed to be his focus, so he moved to Los Angeles in 2017 to attend ICON Collective, a top-flight music production school. It was through his search for a like-minded vocalist as part of an ICON final project that led him to a collaboration with Mariana, and the two have been writing music ever since as brecnmari. Mariana is a Portuguese-American singer, actress, and songwriter from Cascais on the Portuguese Riviera. She began singing at the age of seven and was acting by the age of 12, when she starred as Louisa von Trapp in famed Portuguese director Filipe La Féria's 2007 production of The Sound of Music at the famed Teatro Politeama in Lisbon. In 2007, Mariana starred in Família Superstar, a family-based, team song competition. In 2014, Mariana competed in the second season of The Voice Portugal, coached by Mickael Carreira. She advanced as a semifinalist, but was eliminated in the live shows.
